Channel 5 today announces that presenter and actor, Sir Tony Robinson is travelling around the globe by train for a co-produced series, Around the World in 80 Trains, by Rumpus Media and Motion Content Group.
The 6x60’ series, Around the World in 80 Trains will take viewers on a whirlwind journey around the globe with Sir Tony jumping on and off trains across Europe and then heading east through India, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Japan and finally the USA.
Along the way he will disembark to experience the things that fascinate him the most. In every episode Sir Tony will be finding adventure and facing challenges; mastering the art of herding camels by a helicopter in the Australian outback, joining the musical parade through the streets of New Orleans, abseiling an enormous tree in the Malaysian rainforest.
As well as exploring the history and culture of each place he visits, Sir Tony will be experiencing the local traditions, customs, and way of life. He’ll be digging his own onsen hot bath in the mountains of Japan, discovering the particular art of fishing off the southern coast of Thailand and uncovering a long-lost Byzantine city in Istanbul.
