After the success of the one-off programme, Blindboy Undestroys the World last year, BBC Three has commissioned a four-part series from Rumpus Media, it was announced today (THURS).

It's 2019 and society is wearing an adult nappy. In Blindboy Undestroys The World, Blindboy Boatclub, polemicist, author and man who wears a plastic bag on his head tries to find out why.

Taking in wrongdoers from small-time crooks to society wrecking multinationals, scam-endorsing celebrities to human traffickers and gangmasters, and mixing undercover reporting with comedy, commentary, pranks and analysis, Blindboy Undestroys the World looks at not just the criminals, or those gaming the system, but also what happened to get us here.

After a successful pilot about property, social housing and the rental crisis, Blindboy and his team return to take on issues including work and money, the chaos brought about by the internet, anxiety and modern slavery.

Iain Wimbush, Joint Managing-Director at Rumpus said: “We saw in the one-off how Blindboy’s take on current affairs stories resonates with the youth in Britain today. We are really excited we now have a full series to explore issues such as anxiety, modern slavery and the gig economy.

“Fusing Blindboy’s unique voice with a team of investigative journalists yields unique results and the series promises to uncover more shocking truths affecting the vulnerable and young in this country.”

James Cotter, Executive Producer and Director: “2019 is both a horrible and a wonderful time to be alive, and Blindboy Undestroys The World explores why with a patented combination of Blindboy Boatclub, investigative journalism, and a talking fish, all with a liberal dose of undercover reporting and as many animal memes as we can fit into a half hour.”

In the initial programme that transmitted in October 2018, Blindboy focused on the broken housing system, seeking out unscrupulous landlords and developers who manipulate the property industry, the money launderers who store their money in expensive property, and he unpacked the economic factors and Government policy that has led to a system that is broken.

Kate Phillips, Controller Entertainment Commissioning at BBC said: “In this unique programme, Blindboy pushes the boundaries on ways entertainment shows can tackle serious topical issues which really matter to young people. Following his pilot on the housing crisis he’ll be tackling subjects such as human trafficking through to scam celebrity endorsements. It’s a funny, important show and not to be missed.”

Blindboy Undestroys the World is produced by Rumpus Media. Iain Wimbush and James Cotter are Executive Producers.  It was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, Former Controller of BBC Three and Kate Phillips, Controller Entertainment Commissioning at BBC. The BBC commissioning editor is Ruby Kuraishe.
