Catchphrase, one of Britain’s best-loved gameshows, is to take centre stage at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival as the event’s big entertainment special, it was announced today (MON).

Former host Roy Walker, one of the nation’s favourite stars during his time helming the show in the 80’s and 90’s, will make a return for this unique live version of the show.

Edinburgh does…Catchphrase takes place on Wednesday, the opening day of the Festival, with a host of TV execs trying to identify a familiar phrase represented by a piece of animation.

Something of a Catchphrase King himself, Roy famously coined popular phrases during his time on the show, with "Say what you see" and "It's good, but it's not right" entering the common lexicon.

Walker also won over a whole new fan base through his regular ‘Carpark Catchphrase’ feature on Chris Moyles’ BBC Radio 1 breakfast show.

He was recently seen in The Real Marigold Hotel for BBC Two TV and 100 Years Younger for ITV.

The family-favourite, which is produced by STV Productions and DRG, came back with a bang in 2013 with Stephen Mulhern as host.

Roy Walker said: “I’m thrilled to be back in the saddle after nearly two decades and have some incredible memories of the series. I can’t wait to see TV execs perform on the other side of the camera. I loved my time in my own show at the Festival and am delighted to be reunited with Mr Chips in this Edinburgh TV Festival special."

Advisory Chair, Phil Edgar-Jones said: “This is true entertainment, Edinburgh style! Take one legend of TV, Roy Walker, a hugely popular format, and sprinkle in some TV execs, and we have a session not to be missed! I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m going to find it hard not to shout out if I know the answer!”

As a Festival and a charity, the Edinburgh Television Festival is committed to helping young people from all backgrounds gain access to the TV Industry. It runs two young talent schemes, Ones to Watch and The Network.

Both schemes aim to ensure that the people working in television are as diverse as the audience watching it.
