Ping Coombes

Ping Coombes is MasterChef Champion 2014 and wowed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with her Malaysian-inspired menu. Former hotel manager and now full-time mum, Ping Coombes, 33, was born in Malaysia in a town called Ipoh, a culinary town known for its chicken noodles and beansprouts. She started cooking when she came to university in the UK and over the years her mother, who has been her biggest influence, has given her tips over the phone.

Since winning MasterChef, Ping has been spreading the word about the delights of Malaysian cuisine with her work with Malaysian Kitchen as well as appearing at the MasterChef Restaurant and Bar over the summer. She has appeared at a number of food festivals including the Great Bath Feast, BBC Good Food Show and Taste Festival. She is currently developing her first cook book. Her ambition is to open a vibrant Malaysian style- cafe which offers the fabulous range of food that Malaysian food has to offer.

Ping lives in Bath with her husband Andrew and 18 month-year-old daughter Alexa.
